BLACK HOPS BREWERY

BURLEIGH HEADS, QLD

The least covert operation in brewing – 3 guys making Gold Coast craft beer and sharing everything they learn along the way.

Starting out with their Eggnog Stout in 2014 and quickly gaining momentum and a large cult following, these lads have created 5 core craft beers – which include a Pale Ale, two Saison’s, an Irish Ale and Lager. Not to forget another 5 seasonal beers to wet your whistle!

Operating out of their Burleigh Heads Brewery, Black Hops is now being distributed around the country and enjoyed immensely at Not Tonight.

YOUNG HENRYS

NEWTOWN, NSW

Like most good stories, theirs started over a beer. Meeting on opposite sides of the bar, Richard Adamson and Oscar McMahon got talking. It turned out they both shared a love of beer and a view that the Sydney beer scene was behind the times. It should, they thought, be more adventurous, innovative and fun. Since Richard knew how to brew and Oscar knew all the ins and outs of hospitality, they figured they could do more than just talk.

Fast forward to 2017 and Young Henrys has expanded their brewery into distilling their own Moonshine and Gin, as well as their much loved Aussie Pale Ale, English Ale lager, Cider & Lager.

MILK STOUT

EXIT BREWING

Another lovely beer from the team at Exit, the Milk Stout is no exception. As expected and welcomed, it is black, verging on dark black and red at the edge of the glass. The darkness of the beer also leads to the foam being chocolate brown which pull forth the same expected dose of milk chocolate, dark berries and creamy lactose sweetness in the nose. The lactose also aiding a wonderful full bodied mouthful that will change the perspective a lot of people have about the term ‘stout’.

Milk stouts have a habit of converting non-stout believers as well as non-beer drinkers. Dive in and have a go!

STRAWBERRY RHUBARB SOUR

BROUHAHA BREWERY

A soft pink, almost cider-like image with tight white foam that holds well in the glass and omits a wonderfully soft aroma of the additions mentioned so informatively on the vessel in which it is presented. On the palate the mouthfeel is surprisingly full for a sour, almost plush, with a high level of carbonation allowing the final sensation to be delightfully spritzy, making this beverage one that is extremely suitable for those warmer days, or as a palate cleanser and greasy food match.

The finish is clean, dry, and slightly tart. Best enjoyed served in a glass at 2 degrees.

BORIS RUSSIAN STOUT

FERAL BREWING CO.

When the word vodka means water, you know that the words “Russian Imperial Stout’ are certainly going to embody a certain type of beverage. If you want full flavour, big mouthfeel, and that comforting warmth of alcohol then have sip on ‘Boris’. As the style suggests, everything about this beer is going to be quite deliciously intense, and is entirely meant for savouring. On the nose you can expect deep rich dark cocoa, liquorice and aniseed can feature alongside Italian coffee and various types of burnt wood.

Serve in a bulbous glass and let warm to around 10 degrees.

CLOUD CATCHER

STONE & WOOD

A good example of a dangerous summer crusher, it is one of those drinks that goes down easy and then spanks you for it if you don’t behave. A fantastic orange colour reflects a great job from the brewer in regards to the malt base, which also supports the aromatic nature of this beer well. On the nose you can expect apricots (the kind that Nan has) and orange peel, lightly flamed. Cloudcatcher has a medium body that reinforces the generous quantity of hops used at the later end of the brew.

A fine example of a full flavoured pale ale. Best served in a glass at 5 degrees.
